This week I wanted to talk more about the culture of food in and around The College of Wooster. As I discussed before, the food at the college seems to be lacking. Thus, it is no surprise that a lot of students supplement their diet with ulterior food options outside of the school’s campus. For myself in particular, I often find myself ordering Dominos or Chipotle in the evening for dinner. While I recognize this is not everyone’s experience at the college, I do know a hefty majority of people who, like me, supplement their diet in this way. I find that the “go-tos” for people are through DoorDash, an online food ordering service, where you can get anything from fast food to dine in alternatives like the local diner “classic” Farmer Boy.

I feel like the adamant move toward ordering food online speaks to the in-accessibility to food that students have on campus, as well as in the greater Wooster area. I myself find that my hunger really hits in the evening, where I am relaxing and finally remember that I need to eat to survive. It is also during this time that I remember there are no food options past 10pm, meaning that I would have had to get something to eat prior to 10pm in the daytime. I have asked a few people and they have all said similar things, pointing out that a majority of the food that they consume ends up being from these off campus food options. The lack of “good” food on campus, at any time of the day or night, limits the variety of lifestyles that are encompassed at the college, making it hard for someone like myself to remember to eat during the day and even harder when I do remember and there are no food options at night.
