Over the weekend, I went home to Michigan City, IN to help celebrate my grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary and my girlfriend’s birthday. During that time I ate quite a bit of food, mostly local food. I first started off at Galveston Steakhouse to celebrate my grandparent’s anniversary and because I was at a steakhouse, why not get prime rib? I’m not to sure about you, but I love my steak and steak like items to be medium or medium-rare. Let me tell you that this prime rib may arguably be the best prime rib ever! It wasn’t tough, chewy, or had any imperfections, the only comment I could give to this prime rib is, “I’d like to see Gordon Ramsey try and whip up a prime rib like that”.
On Saturday, I started off the morning with a Poptart, nothing too crazy. For lunch however, my girlfriend really wanted Carlson’s Drive-In, a local hot dog stand. We went to Carlson’s and I ended up ordering a double cheeseburger and some fries, while my girlfriend ordered two cheese dogs and fries. While the food is great and all, they make their own root beer and own cream soda and wow! So I don’t have to ramble on forever about how great their cream soda and root beer is, they sell it in half-gallons and gallons to take home. I decided that I was going to buy some cream soda AND root beer to bring back to school it’s that amazing.
The final stop on my visit to Michigan City was to Schoop’s Hamburgers, a local restaurant that my girlfriend absolutely loves. As soon as I walked in the door, I knew I didn’t want anything else on their menu outside of their chili cheese dogs. When the chili cheese dogs came out they were hot, the cheese was melted, and it was great. The food was awesome, but the best part about Schoop’s is that they have Green River. Green Rivers been around for awhile and use to be very popular, but has lost it’s place in the “soda world” for whatever reason. If you’ve never had Green River before, I suggest that you give it a try. The flavor is similar to Sprite, but sweeter and doesn’t have the overwhelming carbonated taste.
