Folks its not that the quality of Lowry food is bad, it is the quality of the workers. Most people would assume that a University would hire at least novice chefs in their only dining hall but that is not the case. Not even the “cooks” at the egg station can produce properly cooked eggs on a normal basis. Nor can those at the pasta station cook rice or pasta without rendering the rice crunchy or the pasta as mashed potatoes.
Lowry Food (Yikes)
Lowry sucks major ass
Teresa’s Lowry Food Review
Lowry food has gone through many stages in its history. Currently, the College is in the process of hiring an outside organization to take over the food being served on campus.
Coming from the Bay Area, I will admit that my food pallet and expectations were quite high. I wish they weren’t, because when I got here, I was very let down. Lowry has very basic and whitewashed options for food. It is extremely difficult to find food that isn’t drenched in cheese and/or oil. Therefore, if you want to avoid gaining the “Freshman 15” altogether, you must be incredibly strategic about what you eat and creative in your options. Some of the meals I have made for myself have included avocado toast, green quesadillas, salmon bowls, BLTs, and egg white omelets. Don’t get me wrong, I love myself an occasional double bacon cheeseburger like everyone else. But every single day? Nope. As someone who is constantly on the run, I need as much energy as possible, and the meal options they serve at Lowry are simply not strong enough to get me through the day. However, I don’t always have time to create a meal from scratch, which makes me very upset as I am lactose intolerant and very active which means I like to be careful about what I eat.
I am hopeful that in this new era of Lowry dining, the College can choose a service that has better, more diverse, and healthier options so that students like me aren’t constantly having to be creative and make their own versions of meals at Lowry.
Jada’s Lowry Food Review
The food at Lowry is not very good. As a vegetarian, there are always very limited options of what I can eat. They tend to serve the same meals over and over again and it gets very repetitive and boring. Whenever I go to Lowry I know that there’s going to be either tofu or hummus at the vegetarian station because that’s all they think vegetarians can eat apparently. When I go to the vegetarian station there are rarely any options I ever like because they don’t usually have real vegetarian meals. There is rarely a cohesive meal at the vegetarian station like there is at basics, it feels like they just throw a bunch of random options out for us to eat. If I can’t find any suitable options as a vegetarian I can only imagine how hard it is to be a vegan and try to find a meal in Lowry. The best thing to eat as a vegetarian in my opinion is the stir fry because it’s always fresh and it is at least enough of a meal that I’ll feel full.
However, there is one food at Lowry that I do enjoy, the best thing to eat at Lowry also happens to be a vegan option. The vegan chocolate chip cookies are probably my favorite food in Lowry because not only do they meet my dietary restrictions but they taste SO GOOD. All of my friends love them, even if they’re not vegans because that’s how good the cookies are.
